Mopar HEMI®-Powered NHRA Funny Car Driver Ron Capps Starts Season with Consecutive Wins

Mopar HEMI power has served NHRA Funny Car driver Ron Capps well, indeed. The Don Schumacher Racing driver has scored two consecutive wins in his NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to open the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season. Capps is the first Funny Car driver since John Force in 1997 to win the first two events back-to-back.

Capps took the season-opening win at the NHRA Winternationals then grabbed the No. 1 Qualifier spot and the event win at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. The Arizona victory was the 27th career national-event win (26th in Funny Car) for Capps, and his first from the No. 1 spot.

"Our focus this year is to roll into each race and rip their hearts out in each run, focus on winning each race," said Capps, who holds a nearly 100-point lead over the second-place Robert Hight in the NHRA Funny Car standings. "It's a great feeling, because we were embarrassed by not winning any races last year."

Next up for Capps and his Mopar-powered Don Schumacher Racing Funny Car teammates Jack Beckman and Matt Hagan is the 40th annual NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., on March 13–15. For more info on the NHRA, visit http://www.nhra.com.
