Johnson and Mopar Lend Helping Hand to PRO 'Great Helmet Auction'
Mopar and NHRA Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson have teamed up to help the Professional Racers Owners Organization's (PRO) "Great Helmet Auction." Mopar provided a limited-edition Mopar helmet signed by a who's who of Team Mopar drivers for Johnson to donate to the auction.
In addition to Johnson, Mopar's 2005 NHRA Funny Car champ Gary Scelzi and Mopar drag racing legends "Big Daddy" Don Garlits and Judy "Miss Mighty Mopar" Lilly autographed the helmet during a Team Mopar photo shoot in 2008 at Red Rocks Park in Morrison, Colo. Formula Drift star Samuel Hubinette, SCORE Off-Road drivers Brian Collins and Chuck Hovey and road-racing pilot Cindi Lux also signed the rare piece of Mopar memorabilia.
PRO unveiled the "Great Helmet Auction," its' first ever online promotion, on May 15. A full description of driver helmets, including their history and photographs, is available at http://www.GreatHelmetAuction.com. The auction includes helmets worn by NHRA stars including: Jack Beckman, Brandon Bernstein, Kenny Bernstein, Antron Brown, Ron Capps, V. Gaines, Mike Edwards, John Force, Ashley Force Hood, Matt Hagan, Robert Hight, Warren Johnson, Doug Kalitta, Ron Krisher, Cory McClenathan, Mike Neff, Tony Schumacher, Bob Vandergriff Jr., and Tim Wilkerson.
The 10-day auction will be hosted on eBay beginning June 6 and will end June 15. Winning bids will benefit PRO, a trade organization providing services and other benefits to professional drag racing team owners and drivers, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Racers for Christ (Team RFC), an organization which has been servicing NHRA for over 25 years.
