Saldana Victorious at VMS with Mopar Power, Breaks into WoO Sprint Top-10 All-Time Win List
Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) and Mopar(R)-powered driver Joey Saldana joined an elite group on Saturday, May 23, winning the Paul Sawyer Memorial at Virginia Motor Speedway and breaking into the Top-10 of the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series all-time win list. The triumph was the 46th of Saldana's career and his second in a row following his win on Friday, May 22 at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. in the Outlaw Showdown.
Saldana, driver of the Mopar-fueled KKR Budweiser Maxim, started on the pole at the Virginia Motor Speedway event and dominated from start to finish. He now leads the WoO Sprint Series with seven wins this season, already surpassing his win total from last year by two victories.
"This was a complete team effort again tonight," said Saldana in Victory Lane. "My crew just kept plugging away. This is a very special win as well being my 46th."
Saldana passed defending series champion Donny Schatz in lapped traffic on the 20th lap and led the rest of the way for his Friday win, which was also extra special. The KKR team recently opened a new racing shop near The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway and Saldana's car owner, Kasey Kahne, in town for the NASCAR Sprint Cup event, was able to witness the victory.
"Tonight was a great night," said Saldana. "I am so proud of this entire team. Kasey expects us to get results with all that he does, so this was a great one to get for him. It was a great effort by everyone involved here tonight."
Saldana is now third in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series point standings. For more information on the series, visit http://www.worldofoutlaws.com.
