Saldana Triumphs at Lawrenceburg, Seizes Eighth Win of Season with Mopar Power
Mopar-powered driver Joey Saldana captured his World of Outlaws Sprint Series-leading eighth victory of the season on Friday, June 5, taking the win at Lawrenceburg Speedway in his home state of Indiana.
Driving the Kasey Kahne Racing Budweiser Maxim, Saldana grabbed the lead on the 20th lap from Terry McCarl and led the remainder of the 35-lap contest to pick up the $10,000 top prize. It was Saldana's 47th career World of Outlaws win, which puts him in sole possession of 10th on the all-time list.
"This is huge," said Saldana. "This is one of the tracks that I grew up at. When you grow up racing these tracks, you want to win on them. It's always special to win at home. My dad was here tonight and doesn't normally come to the races, so that was huge for him to get to see me win."
With the win, Saldana moved into the second spot in the World of Outlaws championship standings and trails three-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz by just 25 points as he chases his first career series title.
