Capps Tops PBIR Testing Charts with Mopar Power
Mopar HEMI®-powered NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series star Ron Capps drove his NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to the top of the charts (unofficially) during a week-long test session held at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR).
Capps unofficially posted the quickest pass of all Funny Cars during the week with a run of 4.092-seconds at 305 mph on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Capps also piloted his Mopar-powered Dodge to a pass of 4.10-seconds at 270 mph on Tuesday, despite shutting the car off early.
"The incremental numbers on that 4.10 (-second elapsed time) run on Tuesday were right there with our national-record run of 4.023 seconds," said Capps of the record he set in 2009, which still holds. "I feel great, the NAPA Dodge is running great, Ace (McCulloch, crew chief) is happy, and we also learned some things that don't work, which is as important as learning what does work. It was a great test session."
Capps and his Mopar-powered Don Schumacher Racing Funny Car teammates, Jack Beckman and Matt Hagan, will kick off the 2010 season at the 50th Annual Kragen O’Reilly NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., Feb. 11–14. For more information on the NHRA, visit http://www.nhra.com.
