Saldana Triumphant with Mopar Power in DIRTcar Nationals Action
Mopar-powered World of Outlaws Sprint Series Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) driver Joey Saldana picked up right where he left off in 2010. Saldana steered his No. 9 KKR sprint car to the win on Thursday, Feb. 4, during the All Star Circuit of Champions portion of the 39th Annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals by University of Northwestern Ohio. Saldana also earned the overall DIRTcar Nationals championship for his strong performance over the course of the week.
Saldana led all World of Outlaws drivers with 20 A-Feature wins in 2009 competition. He wasted no time in putting his Mopar-powered ride in the winner's circle in 2010, claiming his ninth win at Volusia (Fla.) Speedway Park, site of the DIRTcar Nationals. In addition to winning on Thursday night, Saldana turned in the second fastest lap in time trials of the 41 cars that took to the track.
"We have a great car," said Saldana. "We have been working hard at qualifying better, which the first two nights are definitely better than what we did last year down here. We try to do the best we can and bring the best race car we can to the track and hopefully get a good result."
Saldana finished first or second in all four races at Volusia, earning him the overall DIRTcar Nationals title. Saldana is currently tied for second in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series standings, just three markers behind leader Donny Schatz.
