"It was unfortunate the weekend got off the way it did, but things happen and that’s motorsports. We were able to turn around and get a good car together for qualifying and toss a couple of things at it for the race. It was a real Dodge Viper in the race, just impeccable. It drove real nice the whole race." -- Mopar-powered driver Kuno Wittmer, on his second-place finish in the World Challenge GT event at Watkins Glen on Saturday, July 3. After Wittmer was unable to continue in his No. 13 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Viper Competition Coupe following an accident in practice, Jeff Courtney gave up his No. 99 Kenda Tires Dodge Viper for his teammate, who is currently second in the point standings.

Wittmer Ends Wild Weekend at Watkins Glen with Runner-up Finish

Dodge Motorsports and Woodhouse Performance driver Kuno Wittmer took the second spot on the podium in the World Challenge GT event in Watkins Glen, N.Y. on Saturday, July 3, during a wild weekend that saw the Montreal, Canada native take over the wheel of the Mopar-powered Dodge Viper Competition Coupe of his teammate, Jeff Courtney.

Currently second in the Drivers’ Championship standings, Wittmer was unable to continue in his No. 13 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Viper Competition Coupe after an accident on his first lap of the second practice session on Friday. With Wittmer’s car unable to be repaired at the track, the team turned to Courtney’s No. 99 Kenda Tires Dodge Viper. Courtney graciously stepped out of the car to allow Wittmer to run the blue machine, now numbered as the No. 13 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Viper, in qualifying and the race.

"Jeff Courtney deserves all the credit today," Wittmer said. "For a teammate to give up a car like that halfway through the season when he’s going for points, the only other person I know who would do that for me is my brother. It was very nice of him to get out of the car yesterday and give me the ride and go on to something else."

Jason Daskalos made it two Mopar-powered Dodge Viper Competition Coupes in the Top Five with a fourth-place finish. Fred Roberts came home No. 11 in his Comp Coupe. Courtney managed to find a new ride, though not a Viper, and post a 12th-place finish in the event.

Dodge is currently second in the Manufacturers’ Championship standings, only six markers behind Volvo. The World Challenge Championships return to action on the streets of Toronto, July 16–17. For more information, please visit http://www.world-challenge.com.
