Mopar-powered Funny Car Champ Hagan Honored at AARWBA Banquet

Matt Hagan, the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car champion, who drove a Mopar-powered Dodge Charger R/T to the title for Don Schumacher Racing, was honored on Sunday, Jan. 8 in Indianapolis, Ind. for being selected to the First Team of the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) All-American Auto Racing Team, during the organizations annual awards banquet.

For Hagan, a native of Christiansburg, Va., it was his first time being named to the All-America First Team, after earning Second Team honors in 2010. The All-America Auto Racing Team has been chosen every year since 1970.

Hagan was victorious twice in 2011 en route to winning the title, and compiled a 33-20 round-win record. He also turned the first sub-four-second pass in Funny Car history at Charlotte in September, with a run of 3.995 seconds.

The 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season kicks off for Hagan Feb. 9–12 with the 52nd Annual NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club (Calif.) Raceway at Pomona. For more information on NHRA visit http://www.nhra.com.
