Tennessee native Allen Johnson drove his Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T Pro Stock car to his third No. 1 Qualifier Award of the season and earned a semifinals finish at the O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals in Memphis, Tenn. on Sunday, Sept. 28. Johnson moved to seventh in the NHRA Countdown to 1 playoffs.

Johnson Collects No. 1 Qualifier Award, Semifinals Finish at Memphis

Team Mopar driver Allen Johnson captured his third No. 1 Qualifier Award of the season, advanced to the semifinals and moved into the seventh spot in the NHRA Countdown to 1 Pro Stock standings at the O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The HEMI®-powered Johnson, steering his Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T, secured his sixth career No. 1 Qualifier Award with a pass of 6.591/208.52 on Friday at Memphis Motorsports Park. A Greeneville, Tenn. native, Johnson gave the local fans something to cheer about during Sunday eliminations, taking out rising Mopar-powered rookie Rickie Jones in the opening stanza and Pro Stock points leader Jeg Coughlin in the quarterfinals. Johnson came out on the losing end of a semifinals matchup with Jason Line, bowing out by only four feet.

Mopar HEMI-powered driver Larry Morgan advanced to the quarterfinals at Memphis, taking out Jim Yates before losing to Warren Johnson. Mopar Pro Stock drivers V. Gaines and Johnny Gray exited in the first round.

The Mopar-powered Pro Stock contingent will head next for the third annual Virginia NHRA Nationals in Richmond, Va., on Oct. 10–12. For more info on the NHRA, visit http://www.nhra.com.
