Johnson Exits in HEMI-Powered Duel with Gray at Virginia

Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T NHRA Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson lost a HEMI-powered faceoff with his future teammate, Johnny Gray, and exited in the quarterfinals of the Virginia NHRA Nationals on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Johnson and Gray announced recently that the two will team up in 2009, with Johnson's J&J Racing team supplying the Mopar HEMI engines for Gray's SKI Racing squad. Johnson dispatched Justin Humphries in the opening round, with Gray taking out another Mopar-powered driver, V. Gaines, in his first-round battle. Gray grabbed the holeshot win over Johnson in the quarterfinals, scoring a reaction time of .046 to Johnson's slower .087 (.000 is perfect).

Gray's day ended in the semis in a losing run against Jeg Coughlin. Mopar-powered Pro Stockers Larry Morgan and John Nobile also qualified for Sunday eliminations at Virginia, although both were unable to advance past the first round.
