Hubinette is ready to throwdown at Formula Drift Round Three: The Gauntlet
Team Mopar drifter Samuel Hubinette is set on claiming first place in the 2008 Formula Drift Series standings for himself starting at the Formula Drift Round Three: The Gauntlet on June 14 at Englishtown (N.J.) Raceway.
Hubinette claimed the pole and notched a runner-up finish at the season-opening event in Long Beach, Calif. in April. His solid Great 8 run at Road Atlanta in May vaulted the "Crazy Swede" into a tie for first place with Chris Forsberg. The nine-time Formula Drift winner, most of any driver in the series, would love to take home his 10th win and seize the top spot for himself at Englishtown.
"It's great to be tied for the points lead, it's a great way to start the season for the NuFormz Racing Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10 team," said Hubinette. "But our goal is now to take over the lead ourselves and try to gain more momentum at New Jersey. The folks from NuFormz, Mopar and BFGoodrich are working hard to get the car dialed in."
Hubinette has been excelling away from the drift course in his role as a Hollywood stunt car driver. The Newport Coast, Calif. native just finished shooting on the still-in-production film "Crank 2: High Voltage." Hubinette did stunt work as an ambulance driver and also had his first speaking role in a scene with the film's lead actor, Jason Statham. "It was my first time on camera with lines," said Hubinette. "I was skeptical on how I did but they seemed to like it. We'll see -- I hope they will use it in the movie, but I'm not holding my breath."
The Formula Drift Round Three: The Gauntlet is scheduled for June 14 in Englishtown, N.J. The media day and practice is June 13. For ticket and event information, visit formuladrift.com.
