Coons conquers all in badger midget action at Angell Park
Get out the broom! Team Mopar driver Jerry Coons Jr. scored a "clean sweep" at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., on June 1. The Arizona driver set fast time in qualifying, then won his heat race, and finished out his Sunday evening with a victory in the 30-lap Badger Midget Series feature.
Coons was true to form at Angell Park, blasting from his 10th starting position to second in just five laps. Three circuits later, Jerry had the lead and was on the way to his third straight Badger Midget victory at the track.
His winning ride came aboard the Ralph Wilke-owned No. 5, a Spike chassis with horsepower provided by a Mopar engine built by Gary Stanton. Coons' regular midget car is the No. 11 Wilke-Pak Racing machine he has steered to back-to-back titles on the USAC Mopar Midget National Championship Series.
