Mopar®-Powered Sweet Kicks Off USAC Mopar Midget National Championship with ‘Copper on Dirt’ Triumph
The 2010 USAC Mopar® Midget National Championship Series season opener featured a dominating performance by, appropriately enough, a Mopar-powered driver. Brad Sweet steered his Kasey Kahne Racing Ollie’s Bargain Outlet/Auto Value Spike/Mopar to both the pole and the victory in the “Copper on Dirt” event at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. on Sunday, Feb. 21.
The Grass Valley, Calif. native led the first 21 laps and the last three in his Mopar-fueled midget car after passing Tracy Hines, another Mopar-powered driver, on lap 28. Hines finished third in the series opener, which marked the start of Mopar’s third consecutive season as the primary series sponsor. Sweet jumped to the early points lead in both the National and Western Midget series heading into Thursday night’s “Las Vegas Super Sprint Classic” events in Nevada.
